The Spanish Commission for Aid to Refugees called Thursday (May 7th) for Mauritania to close a Noadhibou detention centre, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported. In its report to the Spanish government, the human rights NGO claimed that immigrants are kept in crowded and unhealthy conditions for up to 15 days before being released at the border with no means of returning home. The centre opened in 2006 with Spanish funding to house would-be migrants attempting to reach Spain.
